Transport and Logistics Lead

Make a meaningful difference by leading logistics that matter.

Cornwall Hospice Care is seeking a proactive and highly organised Transport and Logistics Lead to oversee the efficient movement of donated goods, lead a diverse team, and ensure regulatory compliance across our donation and retail distribution network.

This role is pivotal to the smooth running of our charity shops and supports the high standards of care we provide in our hospices. As the Transport and Logistics Lead, you will manage daily operations involving drivers and donations assistants—including employees, volunteers and work placements—ensuring that all stock is distributed effectively across our store network and that our fleet and recycling partnerships are maintained to the highest standard.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, support and co-ordinate a team of drivers and donations assistants across multiple sites and shifts.
  • Organise and prioritise daily distribution schedules, ensuring efficient, timely deliveries to Cornwall Hospice Care shops.
  • Maintain strong, positive relationships with recycling and reuse partners, including coordinating contract reviews and service levels.
  • Oversee the maintenance and compliance of the vehicle fleet, including MOTs, servicing, driver declarations, and equipment checks.
  • Manage stock movements between donation centres and shop locations, keeping detailed records and tracking all inventory transfers.
  • Order and maintain van permits for access to local recycling centres.
  • Act as the key point of contact for all transport and logistics queries—both internally and externally.
  • Monitor and update a compliance database to ensure all required documentation and certifications remain up to date.

About You:

We’re looking for a hands-on leader who thrives in a dynamic, people-centred environment. You’ll need excellent organisational skills, a keen eye for compliance and logistics, and the confidence to lead a team composed of both paid and voluntary staff.

Essential:

  • Experience managing transport or logistics operations, ideally in a charity or retail environment.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coordinate and develop a diverse team.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation related to reuse, recycling, and vehicle management.
  • Strong IT and record-keeping skills, particularly for compliance tracking.
  • Flexibility to adapt your working pattern in line with operational needs, including weekend working.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with or managing volunteers.
  • Understanding of the charity retail sector.

“My friend was nursed so well, and had every attention during his last days.  He twice asked me; who is paying for all this? and couldn’t believe it was free.  What a wonderful world it would be if everyone had access to this standard of care.”
